Luke 8: 22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
Have you ever been asked a question that left you dumbfounded? A question that made you scratch your head, raise an eyebrow and have an ‘ahha’ moment.
Well, that’s exactly what Jesus did when he exclaimed with amazement to his disciples; Where is your faith? Luke chapter 8 verses 22-25 says that his question made his disciples wonder.
What could have led to his asking them this amazing question?
Let’s do a quick recap.
After a day of preaching, Jesus said to his disciples; Let’s go over to the other side. They all got into a ship and started the journey. Soon Jesus was asleep.
Suddenly, (and it must have been a sudden development because at the time they started the journey, they must all have felt ok about the trip, that they would make it safely to the other side) a storm of wind came down on the lake and the waters started filling the ship.
The usual calm waters of the lake they started the journey with, now being maneuvered by the force of the wind became an instrument of destruction within a short time frame.
But, Jesus continued sleeping in the ship.
The ship was being tossed by the wind and the waves, but Jesus continued sleeping.
The disciples were yelling and screaming, but Jesus continued sleeping.
In the middle of the chaos, Jesus slept until his disciples woke him up shouting, “Master, we perish!”
Then, Jesus arose but instead of agreeing with them that they were perishing, he addressed the wind and the waves. He issued a rebuke, a cease and desist order that the wind and the waves obeyed and there was an immediate calm.
You can imagine their amazement. One minute they were thinking this was the end of their lives and the next minute it was all calm. The wind stopped howling and blowing, and the waters lapped gently around the ship. They obeyed his command.
Turning around to the disciples he asked them that amazing question; Where is your faith?
That question implied that he fully expected them to have handled the situation with the use of their faith. He expected them to have done what he did and to get the results he got. He was surprised they had not used their faith.
It also says to us that Jesus had used his faith to rebuke the wind and the waves and to get the desired result of peace.
My question to you today is this; Where is your faith?
In every situation in your life; Are you using your faith to get the desired result?
Everyday and all day and night; Is your faith tangible and evident and being put to work in the affairs of your life?
Have you used your faith for anything today?
Your desired, long awaited turn around is waiting to manifest at the command of your faith.
When you mix your faith, your belief with the word of God, miracles, signs and wonders and the blessings become your daily reality.
Put your faith to work.
